The Guards Die at the End

Presented by Jonathan Hoey and the Hayman Theatre Company

A poignant adaptation of the epic poem Beowulf, imagine Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, but with 6th century Swedes, swords and monster slaying. This absurdist tragicomedy asks the question “will we be remembered?”

Beowulf has promised to slay a monster, the guards are waiting for it to appear so they can warn him. In their last 10 minutes of life, these side characters from another man’s story lament their lives, loves and losses, reassuring each other they will be remembered and that their lives did have meaning.
