RETURN TO THE DARK SECTOR:

My mood board. Fascinated by the Batavia mutiny I have used this real life horror story to seed my work, made by many comparisons between the horror of isolation found in nautical and space exploration disasters.

- Return to the Dark Sector is what I call a ‘Tim Burton Sequel’. While this is a following on from my original show DARK SECTOR, it is also a re imagining as a staged radio play. That means live radios, live sound effects and a unique challenge for actors (who will also be sound operators!).
- I was inspired to remake my old show (which also used radios) by Scott Mcardle and Second Chance Theatre’s Laika: A Staged Radio Play and Joe Landry’s War of the Worlds.
- This show is about the crew of a radio station who pick up the black box of a ship that was lost to the Dark Sector, the Bermuda Triangle of space, and their experience retelling the story of the crew, who tore each other apart.
- The show is an exploration of miscommunication, loneliness, and the dark side of humanity. If you want to see people go to space and have a bad time because they won’t talk to each other than you won’t find a more literal description of a show.
- Think if Alien, The Thing and Sunshine had a child that grew up watching the Twilight Zone. Basically, it’s a sci-fi horror about astronauts that get stranded in the Bermuda Triangle and have a really bad time with radios and monsters.
- In essence, this show is a prompt to reconsider the ways we interact with our fellow humans and to challenge us to be kind and honest. Easy right?!
